Lunch Run – Twin Falls

Head south on Coal City Rd to Hwy 16 which follows the Guyandotte River. There are several hairpin turns, five one-lane bridges and sections with no shoulders or edge lines. Watch for deer. Lunch at Twin Falls Resort State Park Lodge. Return via the exhilarating Bolt Mountain Highway. (The Trail of Dragons, Millionaires Playground, Hatfield-McCoy and Bolt Mountain Rides)
Lunch Run – Hawks Nest

Heading north, we’ll reach Deepwater Mountain Road, with over 40 curves in three miles, then onto Hwy 60 “The Talon” with it’s 700 foot ascent (8% grade) over 5 miles with 89 curves. Then a couple of quick photo stops at Cathedral Falls and Hawks Nest Overlook before lunch at Hawks Nest State Park Lodge. Returning to Beckley, after a stop at the New River Gorge Visitors Center and Overlook, we will not cross OVER, but rather UNDER the New River Gorge Bridge on Fayette Station Road and cross the New River on the 1889 Tunney Hunsaker Bridge that the big bridge bypasses. Highway 41 runs east along and crosses the New River. We’ll pass through Prince which is the active Amtrak station serving Beckley and through Quinnimont (named by the five mountains near the townsite). This road is on the backside of Grandview Overlook. At Danese, we’ll turn south for a photo stop at Sandstone Falls Overlook on the New River before arriving at lunch in Hinton at the Market on Courthouse Square. Then ascend 1600 feet back to Beckley via curvy Hwy 3. (Swampfox Loop)
